The power of writing down your thoughts

A business mentor used to encourage us his associates to always bring a note and pen. He explained they come in useful for those ideas that pop up once in a while. Writing them down immediately is important since they often get lost in the day’s busyness and there’s the tendency to forget what could have been an innovative business venture, a unique graphic design or an engaging writing project.

When you put these ideas into paper (or even input right away in a PDA or laptop), you’re freeing the brain with information since you have already transferred some to another medium. Just like a computer hard disk drive, once it’s full, you can’t store and put in more data unless you transfer some files to another disk drive or a DVD disk. Writing down your ideas liberates the mind and leaves more room for new inspiration to come up.
