After watching some episodes of Season 3 of NBC’s Heroes, the concept of time travel has once again made me ponder a bit. There was this scene in episode 4 where the future Peter Petrelli appeared to his present-day self and transports him to the future to show him something, so you see two Peters talking to each other at the same time.
Present-day Peter: Why me? Why can’t you do it?
Future Peter: Because I made terrible choices…stepped on too many butterflies.
Present-day Peter: What does that mean?
Future Peter: You can’t make the same mistakes as me.
As humans, our Creator made us special and gave us our individual gifts and abilities though we are not like Peter and can never time travel. God in His infinite wisdom gave us time which we cannot manipulate – pause, stop, turn it back or play it fast forward. Our physical bodies have time and space limitations, thus even the 24 hours given us seem not to be enough and days just pass by like a blur.
Time is a gift that we all are given equally, and how we make use of our time now will surely determine our future. As God’s stewards, we are responsible in managing our time and making wise decisions today, so that we need not be like the future Peter who went back to warn his present-day self not to make the same mistakes he did.
We cannot turn back the time to repair past blunders, but we can have the attitude of acceptance by letting go of the past and learning from it. Moving on and being the best we can be today – this is the greatest investment we can give to ourselves so our future will be lived with no regrets.
