Nearsighted me

I’m nearsighted and I wear glasses since grade school. Nope, it’s not because I’m a genius, but rather it’s hereditary. Everybody in the family is nearsighted, and my eyes just gave up on me earlier than my other siblings did. How I hated to wear glasses that time! I don’t know why. I didn’t care if it gave me low grades because I can’t clearly see what’s written on the blackboard. I was just so stubborn not to wear them in school. I guess the reason why I had this hateful reaction to wearing glasses was because they were not fashionable that time, they look unattractive, big and thick framed, I thought I looked like a weirdo wearing them.

That’s why I was extremely grateful to wear contact lens when I was in college. Well, aside from the contacts, I do have my glasses too and this time, I wear my glasses with no ill feelings at all. I guess when you were young you’re totally unreasonable and just don’t make sense.

It’s good to know that these days, glasses are not only fashionable, they are also multi-functional. One can find a wide selection of styles and designs for sun reading glasses, folding glasses, and much more at online stores. Some eyeglasses are offered in low prices online with great client support and speedy shipping by the leading vision care companies on the net.

Aside from the usual full framed glasses, new designs now have slim reading glasses which come in stylish and colorful pen-cases. You now have more choices – half framed glasses, folding glasses, reading sun glasses which gradually tint when exposed to UV rays (cool huh?), some even come with hand-painted colorful designs. I wouldn’t have mind wearing some stylish bamboo reading glasses when I was in grade school then.

  1. farsighted naman ako. i’ve had reading glasses since i was a college freshman. i haven’t experienced wearing contact lenses. takot ako talaga to stick something into my eyes heheh.

  2. weird tlga kme dati.. uso sa school nung elementary ako yung naka-glasses. yung iba khet walang grado. hereditary din saken..siguro kse din mahilig ako manood ng malapit sa tv. at since uso ang nakasalamin, i’ll wear my dad’s glasses. pero ngayon, i don’t wear glasses unless nasa house ako. contacts lang tlga. kse parang di bumabagay glasses saken..

  3. When I was younger, I found out I needed corrective lenses when I applied for my drivers license and I need them both for far and near. Now I don’t need glasses for reading, but still need one all the time. Could never get used to contact lense and not suitable for corrective surgery. But good news though, our extended care health program at work covers $300 worth of corrective lenses (contact or glasses)every two years. enough for a good pair..

  4. Bea: seldom lang ako maka-meet ng farsighted… well, once you get used to wearing contacts, it’s just as easy as brushing your hair. 🙂
Tin-tin: kahit siguro uso, ayoko talaga ng merong nakakabit sa eyes ko. hindi talaga ako comfy with glasses. so you wear contacts rin pala?
Vic: that’s really good news, considering the price of corrective lenses these days. good for you… 🙂

  5. Everyone in my gene pool is nearsighted as well. well except for my brother who has 20-20 vision. (I think he’s adopted. hehehe)
I have two pairs of reading glasses as well. With glare control, UV protection, protection from computer screen radiation, etc, etc. If it had a swiss knife, I can go to the mountains and survive…
I came here from Tin-tin’s blog by the way. I just had to see the blog of the author of that great meme she tagged me with.
    🙂

  6. Alternati: i used to have glasses for using the computer too, i used it with my contact lens on, so walang grade… and that made me ‘six-eyed’ na when i wear it. 🙂 now i don’t wear anything to protect my eyes from the radiation…is that bad?
thanks for the visit! and thanks for saying it’s a great meme… that’s something i have to tell my grandchildren someday. hehehe..

  7. I’m near-sighted. In 2000, I was only using corrective lenses, as if genius-looking. But in 2002, due to daily exposure to the laptop of at least 12 hours a day, my vision blurred.
Now, I couldn’t do things without my glasses on.
Btw, i’ll link you up. Been here many times already. 🙂

  8. Modesty aside, I find it cool wearing glasses because it makes me look older and more distinguished! Yes, I have to wear them sometimes for correction… not only for vanity. 🙂

  9. the best thing that ever happened to me after contact lenses is laser surgery (Nowadys it is lasic). i had laser surgery about 10 years ago or so, i have never regretted it, and until now i have satisfactory results. but looking back, i guess i have done something risky–they were my eyes, what if the laser surgery didn’t go well? i shudder at the idea.

  10. i don’t like wearing glasses too! i only use contacts when i have more time putting them on, coz sometimes it takes so long to stick to my eyes!
sexy mom: i wanted to have laser surgery too, pero sobrang liit lang ng grado ko. hehe

  11. Lazarus: you’re wearing glasses too! hmmm… any blogger with 20/20 vision, please stand up!
Thanks for the link, will do the same. 🙂
Alvin: for guys maybe, glasses look good on them, they look smarter. but for girls, nah… better use contacts.
well, i did use my glasses one time, and my friend told me it made me look like a kid. weee…

  12. Sexy mom: wow, you’ve had lasik surgery! can i see your eyes? hehehhe… i admire you for that…yup, big risk indeed. i’m thinking of that too, but i’m kinda scared. my contacts are doing me good, anyway.
Daisy: well, sometimes my contacts are giving me a hard time too, but weighing the pros and cons, i still love wearing ’em than my glasses.

  13. They (unreliable sources, hehe) say that prolonged exposure to a computer screen can aggravate nearsightedness. It’s best to wear glasses that have that protection (I dunno the technical term, :P) Or you can do Plan B which is the screen filter thingamajig you hang in front of a PC monitor.
Speaking of Lasik Surgery, Do they really pop your eyes out of their sockets to do that? Scary!!!

  14. Alternati: thanks for the info, i need to wear some anti-radiation glasses then since i am using the computer a lot. they say those screen filters are not effective as anti-rads…
hehehe… let’s ask Sexy mom if her eyes were popped out when she had her Lasik surgery.
