Sometimes life calls us to do something different than the usual course of activities that we are accustomed to. Some refer to it as moving out of your comfort zone. For me, it was not just a move but a jolt. One fine day, my mom just called me from Manila and told me to prepare for a flight going there ASAP. Huh! So many thoughts ran through my oh-so-busy mind: What about my myriad of tasks? What about the new project which I am so excited about? What about Dad, he will be left here at home? I was just not prepared to be veered away from my well-planned schedule.
Unfortunately I was left with no choice but to secure a ticket and fly the next day. Tsk. And then I thought I would be gone for just a week, but my stay in Manila dragged on for more than a month. I was able to practice my profession and work on my creativity to finish with the interior design and furnishing of my techie bro’s condo unit on a limited budget. I learned more with the time spent working with the contractor, doing design for the kitchen cabinets and choosing the right colors, fabrics, furniture and decors for the whole unit. Though I lost some precious time for my scheduled tasks, I also gained so much more.
Now that I am back home and done with it, I realize that one must always be prepared for the unexpected. Life always brings a lot of surprises… people, events and things that could disrupt our best-laid plans. We should always ready ourselves for random and unanticipated interruptions and take them positively when they do come.
