Bacolod and Talisay updates: Checking out Super Metro, Foodman and Puregold

We’re home sweet home now, and so excited to see some new stores opening in Talisay and Bacolod, such as the Super Metro hypermarket in Ayala’s The District, Foodman Mall in Talisay and Puregold in Banago. We did some store visits to check them out, happy that we now have more choices for shopping and dining.

Last Monday, we were at the new Puregold Banago branch. It’s not as big as we thought, and it’s just a grocery store, a bit smaller than Savemore Talisay. Most of the items, such as rice and canned goods, are a bit pricey compared to Savemore and SM hypermarkets though, so I did not buy a lot. It’s good though that they have Monterey meat products and Magnolia Chicken station as well as Bounty Fresh eggs packed in dozens. They accept credit card purchases and senior citizen discounts can be availed (just bring your purchase booklet and SC identification card).

Mom and I also went for the first time at the Foodman Mall in Talisay, another new grocery and department store in our city, just beside the public market. We went there about 7:30AM (after attending the early Mass) to check out their coffee shop/cafeteria. Unfortunately, their cafeteria opens at 8:00AM, so we had to settle with a cup of coffee instead. The store opens earlier (not so sure if at 7:00AM or earlier). Compared to Savemore, some grocery items are relatively higher, and they don’t honor credit card transactions.

How about the Super Metro hypermarket? We also checked it out and still my favorite is Savemore (prices are lower), haha… I did get myself a Metro Rewards card though. The place is definitely wider and bigger, especially the aisles. It’s a hypermarket concept offering clothing and accessories, electronics, home and living products aside from food and grocery items. They even have school supplies and toys for the kids. Hmmm… I wonder if some nutcracker ballet characters were on sale too? Of course, our handyman Dad checked out their hardware and DIY section.

The Super Metro also has some store attractions to keep their customers coming back, such as discounted items and collecting points to get free Sola knives. Also they have freebies when your purchases meet the minimum required amount. I got 24 sachets of Surf 5-in-1 detergent powder for free! Pretty neat, huh. What made me happy about the Super Metro was finding some Cebu products on the shelves… especially my favorite Fiesta beef loaf! LOL. Of course, the yummy Sunpride smoked longganisa can’t be missed. Holiday, Sunpride and Fiesta food products are from Cebu and some of their products are not available in most supermarkets. Now, this is one good reason to go back to Super Metro and stack up on my Cebu faves. They bring back some really good memories of my student/corporate days in Cebu.

So that sums up my observations about these recently opened grocery stores near our place. So grateful that we don’t need to travel far to shop for groceries and other basic necessities. Happy shopping!
